A cab driver sheds tears over a phone call made to a family member. Lizzie loses her phone in a taxi. A museum is closed for renovation when our group intended on visiting. It is raining, and the climate is chilly.


A series of unfortunate events serves as a reminder that all people on this earth are affected by the realities of life. Although cultural affinities differ all around the world, in many ways we are the same.


This sad beginning to a day in the city of Bou Said was an invitation to adopt a negative outlook during the following hours, but I found myself deeply reflective when reacting to these events.


It is so easy to notice how new perspectives and cultures differ from your own, but noticing similarities can serve as a real challenge. As one misfortune led to the next, I found myself deeply touched by the realization that we are all human - life happens.
