After a rewarding bike tour of the ancient city of Cartage, our group made our way to a well known cafe in Sidi Bou Said to eat lunch. The trek to the cafe included a walk up a never-ending, steep hill. Our hunger and fatigue would have made this a negative experience, however our group seemed to become transfixed at every turn of the corner at the sights of the beautiful walk.
Buildings lined the centuries-old stone streets in uniform colors; matte white building with vivid blue accent windows and doors popped like fireworks on a summer night. The scenery was complemented by healthy vegetation like orange trees and brightly colored flowers. The ethereal walk through the posh Mediterranean town was a staircase to heaven, all leading to an experience which is only possible in movies.
At the end of our trek up the hill, we met the climax of our journey upon arriving at the cafe. A beautiful scenic view was finally revealed to our energy-drained eyes. The Mediterranean Sea vastly surrounded us and shimmered like glitter under the warm, golden sun. I felt a thrill of humanity - like I was really living.
